White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt will step down in August, President Donald Trump announced on August 12. The announcement followed circulating footage of a tense exchange aboard Marine One in Washington.

For context, Trump shared the news on Truth Social. He stated that Leavitt is resigning to spend more time with her young family. Trump praised her decision, calling it a choice he totally understands and respects. The twenty eight year old official will now transition into a role as a top outside advisor.

Leavitt confirmed the bittersweet news on X shortly after the official announcement. She explained that she could not be the best mom while devoting constant time to her press duties. Her second child, Viviana “Vivi” Riccio, was born on May 1. She also shares a son, Nicholas “Niko” Robert Riccio, with her sixty year old husband, Nicholas Riccio. Their son Niko was born in July 2024.

We cannot independently verify these claims, so take everything lightly.

In case you missed it, footage recorded inside Marine One recently circulated online. The video showed Leavitt alongside Trump and executive assistant Natalie Harp on August 11. Social media users described the interaction between the officials as visibly isolated and tense.

Lip reader Nicola Hickling analyzed the viral clip for The Irish Star. Hickling claimed that Leavitt asked Trump and Harp a three word question. Leavitt allegedly asked them, “Are you sure?” during the flight.

Harp supposedly replied that an official announcement would come as soon as possible. Leavitt then allegedly responded with a simple “Okay.” She then sighed and rubbed her arm in apparent relief and stress. (Was this exit planned, or did things implode during that helicopter ride?)

Harp allegedly raised two fingers while speaking to the press secretary. She allegedly shrugged and said, “This has now happened twice.” Harp then added, “Twice, as you know.”

Hickling noted that Leavitt moved forward behind the window, making part of her response inaudible. Leavitt then leaned back, folded her arms, pursed her lips, and turned toward the eighty year old president.

Lip Reader Decodes Marine One Video Involving Karoline Leavitt

The leaked footage has fueled intense speculation across various social media channels. Online commentators questioned whether the White House was covering up underlying friction.

This kind of drama is wild stuff for political observers watching Washington. Leavitt has served as White House press secretary since January 2025. She took the role when Trump began his second presidential term.

Throughout her tenure, Leavitt remained a fiercely loyal defender of the president. However, she quickly became a highly controversial figure in national politics. Critics frequently accused her of spreading misinformation during public briefings. She also faced sharp criticism for contentious behavior toward White House journalists.

The press office environment has seen frequent high pressure moments in recent months. Leavitt often clashed directly with correspondents during televised press briefings.

Uncertain Future for White House Press Office After Karoline Leavitt Departure

Neither Trump nor Leavitt has officially named a successor for the position. It remains unclear who will take over the press briefing room at the end of August.

Media speculation regarding potential replacements is already growing rapidly among political reporters. Natalie Harp is widely considered a potential candidate among political insiders.

White House Deputy Press Secretary Taylor Rogers is another name circulating in news reports. Former beauty queen Anna Kelly has also been listed as a potential choice. White House Regional Press Secretary Liz Huston is another possible contender for the post.

Replacing such a combative surrogate will pose a challenge for White House communications. Trump relies heavily on loyal advisors to handle tough questions from reporters.

Leavitt will soon transition into her new role as an outside advisor. How much influence she maintains outside the executive office remains to be seen. The White House communications team now faces another major operational transition.
